Residentials are important parts of our work. They are a chance to take a group away for an extended period of time (normally 3-5 days), into an environment they are not used to, in order to try new challenging activities that will stretch them.
Within the normal course of work with a group we will do at least one residential, allowing them and us to explore the dynamics of their peer group and afford experiences for reflection and learning.Generally we use Outdoor Pursuits Centres for the residentials. For some it is the first time they have stayed outside of the city for any length and creates a lot of discussion and new learning for the participants.
We have, however, been involved in a number of other residential experiences, including work with teenage mums, 'Iconoclast' residential a dialogue based residential which explored different stereotypes of ethnic groups and aimed to create strategies to break the negative stereotyping down, 'Rewind anti-racism residential' which gathered together young people from all over the country to explore the impact of racism and to deconstruct racist ideologies.
